Trip Overview

An Africa safari shaped around the wild.

Duration: 3 Days / 2 Nights
Starting Point: Momella Gate (1,500 m)
Highest Point: Socialist Peak (4,566 m)
Difficulty: Challenging
Accommodation: Mountain Huts
Best Time: June–October and December–March

The 3-Day Mount Meru Trek is an exciting adventure to the summit of Tanzania's second-highest mountain, standing at 4,566 metres (14,980 feet). Located within Arusha National Park, Mount Meru offers breathtaking scenery, abundant wildlife, and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear mornings.

This shorter itinerary is designed for fit and experienced hikers who prefer a faster ascent. Although more demanding than the 4-day itinerary due to less time for acclimatization, it provides a rewarding trekking experience through lush rainforest, giant heather, alpine desert, and the dramatic crater rim leading to Socialist Peak.

Because Mount Meru lies within a protected national park, every trek is accompanied by an armed park ranger for safety.

Special Notes

The package can be customized.

  • The 3-day Mount Meru Trek is a more demanding itinerary than the 4-day option because it combines the ascent to Saddle Hut and the summit climb into a single day. It is best suited for trekkers with good physical fitness and previous hiking experience.
  • All treks are accompanied by an armed park ranger, as required by Arusha National Park regulations due to the presence of wildlife such as buffaloes, elephants, and other large animals.
  • Summit day begins very early to allow climbers to reach Socialist Peak at sunrise, when views of Mount Kilimanjaro are often at their best.
  • Although Mount Meru is lower than Kilimanjaro, altitude sickness can still occur. Walk at a steady pace ("pole pole"), stay hydrated, eat regularly, and notify your guide immediately if you experience symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, or unusual fatigue.
